Gary Hagon Electrical Services - Portable Appliance Testing

Gary Hagon Electrical Services specialise in Portable Appliance Testing (PAT Testing) and are qualified to City & Guilds 2377-12.

It is a recognised fact that many deaths, injuries and fires are caused by faulty electrical equipment.

Employers, business owners and landlords have a responsibility to their staff, customers and tenants alike in ensuring all electrical equipment is safe to use and fit for purpose.

Legislation states:

"All systems shall at all times be of such construction as to prevent, so far as reasonably practicable, such danger."
"As may be necessary to prevent danger, all systems shall be maintained so as to prevent, so far as reasonably practicable, such danger."

"'System' means an electrical system in which all the electrical equipment is, or may be, electrically connected to a common source of electrical energy and includes such source and such equipment"

"'Electrical Equipment' includes anything used, intended to be used or installed for use, to generate, provide, transmit, transform, rectify, convert, conduct, distribute, control, store, measure or use electrical energy."

Electricity at Work Regulations 1989

There is a requirement that “all mains electrical equipment including white goods, cookers, toasters, etc provided in rental accommodation regardless whether they are new or second hand must be safe. It is strongly advised that Portable Appliance Testing is conducted before the start of any new let."

The Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 1994

"Every employer shall ensure that work equipment is maintained in an efficient state, in efficient working order and in good repair."

The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER)

Unlike some companies, Gary Hagon Electrical Services thoroughly tests and visually inspects all electrical appliances and in accordance with The IEE Code of Practice for In-service Inspection and testing of Electrical Equipment, records and issues certificates detailing what has been tested and deemed safe for use. (We will also tell you what is unsafe).

Regular testing of appliances and good record keeping is essential and goes some way to proving that you - the employer - has taken all reasonable steps to ensure the appliances being used in the work place are safe and fit for purpose, should the unthinkable situation arise whereby somebody gets hurt or heaven forbid killed by faulty electrical equipment that you are responsible for.
